Montessori Method and Structured Sports : The Inseparables
The Montessori Method looks at the optimal growth of a child instead of solely focusing on academics. Ms. Padmashree Sujay, founder of Growing Wonders Montessori House of Children, speaks on a positive note as to how the incorporation of structured sports as implemented by Go Alpha has helped the kids in various fields. The preschool is fifteen years old with two branches, one in Jayanagar and the other in Gavipuram, Bangalore.
At a Kindergarten, when it comes to physical activities, children are often not confined to one place. They can move about freely and explore, which implies that they can independently pick up objects, keep them where they actually belong and socialize easily. According to the Montessori Method of teaching, their freedom is within a regulated framework which aids discipline building. There are a variety of materials to explore and play with. Examples include the Pink Tower, which is nothing but blocks of cube stacked together where the child is supposed to pick up each cube and walk back to his respective mat; and Long Rods which involves the kids to hold long rods at their ends. This enables the limb muscles to get stretched, thus acting as a workout for children. These games involve a lot of physical activity which help develop motor skills that directly influence other domains such as physical, socio-emotional and educational.
Structured sports curriculum like the Go Preschool Program exposes children to a lot of activities, games and sports, especially in preschools where space is limited, such as those that are not a part of a bigger elementary or secondary school. This allows kids to experience the same level of sporting activity through a regulated framework as would have been in case of a kid with an attached playground. Simultaneously, the kids get a break from the sedentary academic routine and explore the applications of what they learnt in class, on field. An important value that is added here is making the most of what is available, which gets embedded in a kid’s conscience, application of which happens everywhere possible as he grows older.
Go Alpha Day is the most anticipated day of the week by the kids. Go Alpha Kids delivers on what is promised in a well-structured and informative manner. The team is wonderful and cooperative, the kids have no hesitation while learning from them. The Founder himself gets in touch with the school for feedback while amending the curriculum based on both negative and positive recommendations. Mrs. Padmashree seeks to strengthen this bond between sport and children to pave the way for better growth and development of the society as a whole.
The cat is out of the box and numerous preschools are approaching to inculcate structured sports into their educational program in a very much organized manner. This will give an all-encompassing advancement to kids since adolescence, which itself will bring about building a solid establishment for future possibilities.
